Machining for jewellers

Machining for Jewellers is a class aimed at more experienced hands. A basic understanding of the jewellery making process is essential. The class will cover a variety of elements including the following;


 

2D technical drawing -

  • Elevations

  • Dimensions

  • Tolerances


 

3D CAD -

  • Model a basic band

  • Claw setting

  • Combine elements

  • Rendering for presentation

  • Prepare a 3D model for machining


 

3 Axis CNC Mill -

  • prepare a programme

  • machine set up

  • 2D surface engraving

  • run a complete 3D model


 

Manual Lathe -

  • Machine a band

  • Grooving and chamfering

  • Preparing a tube setting

  • Drill a band for setting – eternity style

  • Drill and tap threads


 

This is by no means an exhaustive list but a sample of what can be achieved. Over the course of two days you will learn various aspects of machining and how to apply them to your current jewellery practice. Furthermore, the processes you learn will enable you to produce drawings and models suitable for working with 3D printers, machine shops, engineers, toolmakers and even making your own tools.
